FINISH
The surface texture or appearance of a pipe or tube. Most parts start with a mill finish, which is usually rough and lacks lustre and may have spots of oxidation or contamination from mill oil. Other finishes are available upon request.
GAUGE
Gauge, also referred to as gage, refers to the wall thickness of metal tube.
INSIDE RADIUS (I.R.)
The radius of the inner most part of the bend.
INSIDE DIAMETER (I.D.)
The measurement across the widest part of the inside opening of pipe or tube. The terms used to describe inside diameter do not differ between pipe and tube.
OUTSIDE DIAMETER (O.D.)
The measurement across the widest area of a pipe or tube. It is important to understand that the measurement for outside diameter is called out one way for pipe (schedule) and another way for tube (Ga.).
SCHEDULE
Schedule refers to the wall thickness of a pipe.
TANGENT
The straight section of material on either end of the arc of a bend. Our elbows have several tangent lengths and can be customized based on the application.
TOLERANCE
A tolerance is the acceptable difference between the maximum and minimum size of a mechanical part
as a basis for determining the accuracy of its fit with another part. Industry standard is still considered to be +/- 1 degree on bend angles. Our standard is +/- 0.5 degrees. Tighter tolerances to 0.2 degrees can be accomplished.
TOOLING
All bending or forming is done using specialized tooling (wipers, dies and clamps) for the particular size of the tube or pipe being bent. With over 600 bending dies and our own in-house tool and die shop, we are able to create the right tooling for your project.
TRIMMING
The process of cutting excess material around the perimeter of a part.
WALL THICKNESS
The measurement between the outside and inside surface of the pipe or tube.
